The Chicago Bulls 2nd round pick, (49th overall), Erik Murphy suffered a broken nose in Tuesday’s Summer League game vs Portland. After turning it around from his horrendous start in the Bulls first summer league game, Murphy started this game with 10 points and 5 rebounds in 13 minutes of play. He was 4-6 from the field and 2/3 from behind the arc.
It looked as though his jitters had worn off after that first game, looking a lot more confident in the second game. In his third game it looked as though he had found his comfort zone and planned on showing the coaching staff as well as Chicago fans what he could bring to this team. It’s to bad that he had this unfortunate setback.
Murphy was injured on an offensive rebound put back late in the second quarter. Portland’s Claver raked downward of Murphy’s pump fake and hit him square in the nose. Murphy did return to the game and finished out the half. But was not seen on the bench to start the second half. Murphy could miss the remainder of the LVSL depending on the severity of the injury. Although, I would be shocked if he didn’t get a face guard and tough it out. After all, he is trying to make the roster and could prove to be a nice addition to this team as a stretch four. Something many teams in the NBA are on the search for.
