In his first ever matchup vs Kyrie Irving, Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls came out on top. Quite possibly his best game of this short NBA season. Derrick looked comfortable and at ease out there on the court. Never rushed a possession and ended the game with 16pts (8/21), 7 assist, and most impressive zero turnovers in 34 minutes.
With 3:40 left in the 4th quarter Derrick scores on a coast to coast lay-up we have seen him do a hundred times. You know the one where it takes him two dribbles to get past all 5 of the opposing players as he cuts through the air only to softly kiss it off the glass. Yeah that one. Only this time he came up hobbling and would leave the game with the Bulls up 81-76.
Chicago would go on to win 96-81 and after the game when questioned Coach Tom Thibodeau called it a “minor right hamstring injury”. So breathe a fresh breath Chicago, it was his left ACL that he injured 19 months ago, so his right hamstring has nothing to do with any pre-existing injury.
“It’s just a minor strain, nothing serious. It’s nothing big at all. I should be ready Friday.” Rose stated after the win. “I’m still able to walk around, move around the way I want to. It’s just a little sore. Stuff happens. I just have to play through it and get back healthy.”
Derrick did try to come back in after injuring his leg after the timeout but for once the Bulls training staff saw he wasn’t moving the way the wanted, Thibs called a 20 second time out to pull Derrick. Judging by the end of this clip, Derrick didn’t agree with getting pulled.
Let’s just hope that whether it be Friday or next Friday, when Derrick returns, that he returns 100%. We don’t want another season full of injury plagued players that try to rush back just to win regular season titles.
